 WHAT YOU'LL LEARN

- Where the AI threat is hitting hardest — why defending against AI-enabled phishing and social engineering is the highest priority for MSPs and in-house security teams, alongside identity-based attacks.
- The readiness gap — MSPs have higher rates of AI usage (60% on average) across every area compared to in-house teams (44% on average), and what that means for your roadmap.

- Why “do it yourself” is getting harder — in-house security teams were far more likely (60%) to experience or suspect incidents than MSPs noted among their customers (22% on average).
- The tool-sprawl trap — MSPs use 8 security tools on average versus 5 for in-house teams, and why more tools can mean more fatigue, not more protection.

- The shrinking window — with 241 days required on average to identify and contain a breach while Time-to-Exploit has collapsed to one day, why waiting on AI adoption is no longer viable.
- What to do next — practical guidance on closing the gap, whether you run security in-house, through an MSP, or with a hybrid model.

 About the Research

We surveyed 800 Managed Service Providers (MSPs), and 800 in-house security representatives, to understand how small-to-medium-sized businesses (SMBs) are responding to the new AI-led chapter of cybersecurity. Respondents were based in Australia, Canada, Ireland, Italy, New Zealand, Portugal, Spain, UK and US. Interviews were conducted by Sapio Research in March 2026 using an email invitation and an online survey.<https://go.cynet.com/emea-global-ai-security-readiness#_msocom_1>
